This photograph was taken a while ago whilst on Holidays in Hawaii. Honolulu is the largest city on the Hawaiian islands with a population just under 1 million. Personally i didn't connect with the city of Honolulu or the Island of Oahu. It was over run with tourists, poor over priced restaurants and crowed tourist attractions.
The second week i spent on the island of Kauai and had the opposite experience. Quiet, peaceful, friendly people and amazing scenery combined with an ideal tropical climate made for paradise. I hope to dig out the archives some more photos from this amazing island as i couldn't of had two more contrasting travel experiences.
The photograph in question was taken along the picturesque waterfront of the tourist precinct of Honolulu with the sky rise hotels dotting the background.
This photo was processed using Adobe Photoshop CS5 with the Nik Software Viveza Plugin filter to help enhance the contrast between the sky and the clouds without the use of a polarizing filter.
A few weeks ago Perth was rocked by the news of yet another Shark attack this time at one of Perths most iconic tourist destinations, Cottesloe beach. As the office is only minutes away and could hear the news and search helicopters overhead, i headed down with the camera unsure of what would be happening.
It surprised me as it seemed business as usual, though this was Bryn's bathers had been discovered at the bottom of the ocean (which would force the immediate closure of the beach).
This photograph is a 10 image stitch which has some nice cloud formations (perfect shark attack weather) as well as reflections of the sun bouncing of the glorious Indian ocean. When you blow this image up you can see that below the Indiana Tearooms is closed off to police and there is both a helicopter and police boat within the scene.
The scene is nicely book-ended by the Tearooms and the boy gazing out to the ocean.
This photograph was taken at the Oil containers near Port Beach in Fremantle, Western Australia. I drive past these containers regularly and I've always been drawn to their shape and form in particular the patterns formed by the ladders. The difficult part is the framing a shot without the clutter to highlight these features and to find a place throught the high barbed wire fences from which to shoot. I'd like to print this large format on Aluminum Sheeting with a high gloss laminate type finish. Christian Fletcher prints some of his landscapes on this material and they are just incredible. I think it would help highlight the tones and the texture of the steel drum.
Another image after one of the most remarkable storms in Perth in recent history. This Mother and son took advantage of a clearing of the clouds just before sunset to visit Cottesloe beach, Western Australia and see the aftermath of the storm. I like the fragments of the setting sun that are starting to break through the heavy cloud cover and the "happy" colours of the umbrella.
