I love this Kia Car commercial, it makes me laugh every time i see it. Whatever they paid for it, was well worth it as it strikes a chord with me. In my opinion we don't see enough clever advertising in Australia. We seem to play it very safe and conservative with what comes on our screens. If you ever see any of the worlds greatest commercials (TV Shows) you begin to understand that we have a lot of ground to make up on the United States and in-particular parts of Europe who are far more liberal and not as worried about offending particular demographics.
Sunday i ventured out in the hope if getting a decent sunset photograph of Crawley Bay / Nedlands foreshore in Perth, Western Australia. I was relatively happy with the resulting image. I've also got some panoramas to work up as well that should make for a great feature shot on a wide wall. These will print at over a 1 metre long at full resolution.
I havn't had a chance to add this image to the online shop as yet but if you're interested, please let me know and i will organise ASAP. I'm trying to make an effort to get out and capture some decent Perth landscape photographs while winter is still here as it offers the chance to get some interesting lighting and cloud formations that you don't commonly see in summer.
By no means was it a pretty game but the Sharks ran away from the Perth Demons in the last quarter to win convincingly by 64 points. The Sharks were led from the front by the class of Monteath and McGough, while Mzungu and Young were prominent for the visitors.
Importantly the Sharks move from 5th on the ladder to 3rd nearing the end of the WAFL home and away season. With tough away games coming up and with a bye still to come the win comes at the perfect time. The gallery from this game is online now. Visit Gallery.
This photograph was taken at the Oil containers near Port Beach in Fremantle, Western Australia. I drive past these containers regularly and I've always been drawn to their shape and form in particular the patterns formed by the ladders. The difficult part is the framing a shot without the clutter to highlight these features and to find a place throught the high barbed wire fences from which to shoot. I'd like to print this large format on Aluminum Sheeting with a high gloss laminate type finish. Christian Fletcher prints some of his landscapes on this material and they are just incredible. I think it would help highlight the tones and the texture of the steel drum.
This is a photograph of the Margaret River Mouth in the South West of Western Australia in August. My biggest accomplishment with this photo was getting enough blood into my fingers to operate the camera. It was probably my coldest experience as a photographer. I got up at 4.30am and from our Redgate accommodation made the trip to the River Mouth by about 4.45am. Needless to say I was a little early for the Sunrise. Sitting in my car in the pitch black till the first glimmer of light began to appear at about 5.30 i made my way down the rocks to the beach. I could of really used a torch, so instead i fired off periodic flashes to see what obsticles lay in front of me.
This shot was taken looking inland up river and was about a 2 minute exposure. For any tourists and visitors from overseas and interstate i can't recommend this area of Western Australia enough. Only 3 and a bit hours drive from Perth, it is truly one of the most beautiful places in Australia. Filled with wineries, untouched beaches, old growth forests, caves, furniture & art galleries I highly recommend a visit.
