This is my first image in a long time. A result of the realities of work and a period of creative block. More excitingly this is also my first image from the Canon G1-X. Im really excited by the possibilty this camera will provide me. This high end compact from Cannon offers suburb image quality from the largest sensor in it's class. It's a camera that i want to try and keep on me as much as possible to shoot whenever opportunity arises.
From the limited shots i've taken i can say I've been very impressed with the results thus-far. The 14MP camera, features a 4x optical zoom from a very nice lens. Noise from the RAW images is very low even at high ISO's.
This shot in-particular was shot hand-held at 400ISO on a overcast day on the Applecross foreshore south of Perth, Western Australia. I look forward to posting a more comprehensive review of the camera soon, but really happy so far.
This scene was set back just a couple of blocks back from the historic and very scenic Hoan Kiem Lake in Hanoi, Vietnam. This beautiful area is very popular with tourists, and features a majestic lake with a temple in the middle, famous red bridge and is surrounded by amazing gardens and a hive of tourists.
Just as interesting for myself, is too step a few blocks away from a cities main attractions and try and capture a cities true spirit and soul. They way of life for normal civilians away from the prying eyes of tourists.
This scene stood out to me as this lady was leaving her home tucked down an alley way. I like the way the lady is silhouetted against the wall behind which is bathed in late afternoon sun. I'm also fascinated by the construction of these houses which seem to be a mish-mash of building materials such as steel, and corrugated iron.

Another image after one of the most remarkable storms in Perth in recent history. This Mother and son took advantage of a clearing of the clouds just before sunset to visit Cottesloe beach, Western Australia and see the aftermath of the storm. I like the fragments of the setting sun that are starting to break through the heavy cloud cover and the "happy" colours of the umbrella.
